Pamono Large Japanese Ceramic Bowl Juraku 寿楽, 1960s> Bowls

A beautiful and rare Japanese ceramic bowl, signed on the underside and crafted in the 1960s – a period in which traditional Japanese ceramics found new forms of artistic expression.

The bowl has an organic, asymmetrical form that immediately draws the eye. Its surface shows a deep, earthy reddish-brown color with subtle variations and a lively texture reminiscent of coarse woven textile. This natural appearance is the result of the traditional firing process, where every nuance and irregularity adds unique character.

Traditionally, bowls of this kind were used as ikebana basins (suiban) – low vessels in which flower arrangements were composed according to the art of ikebana.

Thanks to its generous size, the bowl today makes a striking fruit or nut bowl. Yet even without use, it stands as a powerful interior accent, embodying the aesthetics of wabi-sabi: beauty in simplicity, impermanence, and imperfection.
