This is a very nice original French bronze statue of a sitting wolf from the 20th century in Art Deco style. The bronze has a mark “Paris JB Deposee”, the sculpture offered is a lifelike, energetic and robust representation. The artist depicts a fully grown resting wolf, not baring his teeth, striding in a natural setting with antelope at his feet. It is a beautifully detailed original bronze casting with very dark brown to olive green patina and some lighter undertones.
With the rise of a new wealthy middle class in Paris during the 19th and early 20th centuries, many artists were inspired to meet the needs of people who wanted to show their status through artwork, thus they created smaller more portable and decorative sculptures like this wolf.
