Discount Pamono Vintage Bench 400 by Harry Bertoia for Knoll International, 1960s

Harry Bertoia (March 1915 – November 1978) was an Italian-American artist and designer. He became famous for his furniture designs for Knoll International; his pieces have become timeless design classics over the decades.

The Model 400 bench offered here is a production from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The bench consists of eight lacquered slats made of Kambala, also known as Iroko wood, and a delicate black lacquered steel frame. The benches were previously provided with a stapled label; the staples are still embedded in the wood on the underside; the label itself was removed by the previous owner over the years.

Provenance: Hessian architect’s villa from the 1970s. We acquired the bench directly from the architect’s original possession.

The wooden slats show signs of age and wear, and some of the wood has aged differently due to sunlight. In summary, a design classic with history and an expressive patina.
