A charming gentleman in his armor, immortalized in a proud and authoritative pose, is the subject of our fine portrait, of good quality and created by an artist belonging to the Northern Italian culture, presumably Lombard, in the mid-17th century.
Although his role as a knight is emphasized, his pose is regal: a three-quarter portrait, surmounted by a plumed helmet, while he holds the typical field marshal’s baton, the quintessential ceremonial symbol of command, worn as part of the uniform of the highest-ranking soldiers.
The pictorial quality of the painting is not without Spanish influences, understandable given that for much of the 16th and 17th centuries, Lombardy was governed by the Spanish government.

The work is sold complete with a gilded wooden frame and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a descriptive iconographic sheet.
